East Bay Open Studios 2015 – This weekend and Next!

I am participating in East Bay Open Studios this year. I though some of you might be interested and I would love to see you there. The show runs of June 5^th to June 30^th. If you can’t make it for one of the weekends there are other opportunities to see my work.

Here is the information:

I am one of four featured artist along with Leslie Cobb, Woody Miller & Heather
Piazza during the East Bay Open Studios at Creative Framing Oakland. I will be carving a new print during the show and Woody will be working on two large murals. The is a lot of great art to experience!

First Friday, Opening Art Reception:
      June 5th, 2015, 6-9pm

EBOS Weekends: Saturday & Sunday, 11-5:
      June 6th - 7th, 2015
      June 13th - 14th, 2015

The show will be up for the whole month of June.

Permanent Ephemera! A new Call for Entries from Four Oceans Press.

Permanent Ephemera! is a collection of Broadsides meant to be saved and cherished. The focus of  this show is on story telling, beyond that the subject matter is open. Send us your artwork!

This show is open to all artists working in any printmaking media. Check out the details of this exhibition below and send us your work.

This is a combination art show and exchange. Please see details carefully since this show is a bit different than our previous exchanges.

How it Works!

Permanent Ephemera! is an art show and exchange. Each artist will send three prints.

• 1st print is for the archive - We keep one and store it for posterity.
• 2nd print is for sale in the show -  We try to sell it and give you your share.
• 3rd print is for the exchange - We trade one of your prints with a print by another artist and send it back to you.

At the end of the show, you will get back your print or a check and a print by another artist. Those are the basics. Sign up and send us your Broadsides.

Bring Them Home! - a Call for Entries.

Four Oceans Press recently released a Call for Entries for the show Bring Them Home!

The Deadline to enter is October 15th, 2010, the show sates are December 1 - December 31, 2010 at Creative Framing & Gallery in Oakland.

The Idea:

July 2011 is set as the date to withdraw troops from the war in Afghanistan. This is not the first time a date has been set and will not be the last...

Regardless of what each of us may think of this or any war - there are many problems in our own nation that could be solved or at least improved by bring our troops home - failing infrastructure, slumping economy, families divided due to deployment - to name a few. Not to mention the lives lost and billions of dollars spent with little result.

What if we spent that money here? Wouldn't we be better to help other nations - who want our help - if we took care of ourselves first?

Send us your artwork related to or created around this theme. Keep an open mind. If our troops came home now: What would be the impact - on us - on the rest of the world? How might families - military and civilian - be better off? Could our nation - and the nations we are fighting in - be made whole and how?

Live Drawing at BridgeHead Studios

Join us on May 14th at Bridgehead Studios in Alameda and see works by five local Artists: Pons, Mark, Heather, Graham & Kathe.

Step in the entry room and view pieces from all the Artists. Then take a seat in the Mini Theater to enjoy Pons Maar's latest work of moving stills exploring the "Alameda Point". Hanging with the studs you'll find Mark Knot's Black & White Linoleum Prints mixed in with his "Adults Only" Pen & Ink drawings. Stroll through the Illuminated Hallway, Heather Piazza's whimsical creations will be full of color. Followed by the Photo Delights of Graham Bird where a few of his erotic photographs will be displayed. Past the bar and into the Back Gallery, Kathe Welch's large drawing is featured along side a few prints and never before shown Calendar Series. During the Open Gallery evening Kathe will draw two new oversize pieces, each 4 foot by 10 foot, for you to enjoy.

The Print shown at the end of this video was made in collaboration by three artists: Kathe Welch (me), Mark Knot & Heather Piazza. We talked about the image, I drew it and we all cut it out. It was very exciting to be a part of something this big. When our print was pulled, Heather followed it to the drying table to get a better picture and an art lover bought it right away...

Two big shows . . . This Month

I am pleased to announce that my Art will be shown in two locations this month. I have work on display at Creative Framing in Oakland and at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts in Alameda.

My art buddy, Heather Piazza and I will be participating in the ProArts East Bay Open Studios event this weekend (June 7-8th) and next (June 14-15th). Both Heather and I will be at the Gallery from 11:00 to 6:00 all four days. The artwork will be up the entire month of June. We have also been working diligently on Four Oceans Press Hand-Pulled Print & Photography Exchanges. We have opportunities for many artists to participate and are actively seeking more artists to get involved in the Artistic community we are creating. We are nearing completion of our Third Hand-Pulled Print Exchange – Spring. We are in the middle of two more Print Exchanges & our first Fine Arts Photography exchange.

This is a sculpture I did a while ago. Hang is currently on display in a show in Alameda at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts. I had been in a few other shows at Frank Bette - several reviews and more details can be seen on the Four Oceans Press Opening Night Reviews page and on my website.

The Opening is Friday night, February 1st and the show runs through March 1st.

New cards, Winter Update and a new show proposal...

I have been really busy and have a lot of News.

We ordered a new business card for Four Oceans Press that is the same layout as the old business card, but has prints instead of paintings. The prints are by the same artists– Kathe Welch, Heather Piazza & Mark Knot – and appear in the same order as on the original card.

We have added new prints to the Winter Archive on Four Oceans Press. We currently have six finished prints and two proofs. The deadline to send in the prints has just past and new prints are arriving each day. The Winter Archive page should fill up fairly quickly. If you want to see the finished Fall prints check out the Fall Archive. And of course, sign-ups are now open for the Spring Exchange and the Food Alphabet.

We have written a proposal for a ‘Four Seasons’ show. ‘Four Seasons’ will highlight the work from our exchanges at a prominent art gallery in San Francisco in August 2008. If we are selected, all of the details we will be posted here.

Post Card Show 2007

I am showing my book "Maps" at the Post Card Show at the Lab in San Francisco. The opening is from 6 - 9, Friday, November 30, 2007 - that's tonight. The show runs from, Nov. 30 - Dec. 8, 2007.

This is my third year participating in the Post Card Show. You can see more about my Maps book on my website and you can click to see my work from previous Post Card Shows 2006 and 2005

Maps

This is the front cover of Maps.

‘Maps’ is a hand made artist book. It is the story of how maps shape up and how maps affect our daily lives. I wrote 'Maps' while driving home from work one day and it was inspired by many road trips ‘Maps’ has 18 pages and is full of illustrations. The center page folds out into a large map. This book is hand-made in a limited edition of 200 and is currently displayed in the Post Card Show at The Lab in San Francisco.

I also posted a few things on the Four Oceans Press store on E-Bay including Maps. Mark wrote a E-Bay guide called 'How to draw a naked Guy.' - It is really about how to get started drawing and how to work with a model - but it is a catchy title.

We are still looking for artist for our two exchanges. The Winter Exchange has 13 artists so far and the Food Alphabet has 11 artists. Q, X & Z - some of the hardest letters are taken.

Michael Smith at Bucci's

We went to the opening for Marie Ali and Michael Smith show at Bucci's in Emeryville. The two photographers had very different images which complimented each other quite nicely.

Michael Smith's work is most large sweeping panoramic shots that show the dynamic beauty of naure.You can almost feel the early morning mist as you watch the sunlight rise through.

Marie Ali photographs show a differentkind of intimacy with nature. All of her images are close shots of large turtles swimming and playing in the water. It is rare to get that close to wild nature and beautiful that shehas done it to share with all of us.

The Show runs October 27 - November 30, 2007 at Bucci's in Emeryville.

Alameda Literati

I will be presenting my half-way completed picture book 'The Last Monkey" at Alameda Literati, (tomorrow) Saturday, Nov. 3, at 12:00.

'The Last Monkey" is a story about my fear of falling off of the bed. The drawings are Pen & Ink. I will be showing several drawings from the book as well as reading selections and answering questions about my story making process. Several more images can be seen on my website.

Another Drawing, 'Holiday' is currently on display at the Frank Bette Center for that Arts with a few of my woodblock and Linoleum prints. 'Holiday' is part of series of twelve Calendars each with its own theme. The first Calendar - 'Month' was shown at Frank Bette in September.
