Pulling a print: Cable Cars.

Here is the Video of me pulling my latest print. It has been a long time since I made and videos or used any videos editing software, so there is a bit of a learning curve and this is my first very simple video. It was fun playing around with it and trying to get it to do what I want.

I started this print in 2015, before we left Oakland. I carved most of it during the East Bay Open Studios. What a busy time! The finished product got a bit lost in the move...a few months in a Portland hotel with two cats and a dog, then relocating to a suburban rental home, while we try to figure out how to build a real house on our farm...I was finally able to get back to this image. I finished the lino a few weeks ago and printed a small edition.

I am fairly happy with the finished piece and ready to move on to other projects...

My Drafting table with the finished lino and print and some oil paints set out and ready!

2017 Goals!

My goal for the coming year is:
· to create one finished linoleum print each week.
· finish my illustrated book “The Lasts Monkey.
· and start selling produce we grow on our farm.

Your support and encouragement will help me get there. Thank you in advance. Here is my introduction on my Patreon page:

I am an Artist, Writer, Art Teacher (middle and high school since 2002) and new farmer (since 2015).
I create drawings and linoleum prints about things that I find Interesting. My art is based on what I see around the farm and places in modern cities where nature collides with industrial objects.A gallery director once told me my work was too "disparate." I think that is a good thing. I want to make art about everything! And I am not working on just one thing. I always have several prints or drawings, illustrated stories and farm projects in the works. I document them on my website and blog.
You can help support my work by becoming a patron. I will post art here first and post how to and (eventually) behind the scenes videos. I am open to suggestions of what you might like to see.

My prints and drawings and more can be found on my website at www.kathewelch.com and for sale on Etsy. Our small press is at www.FourOceansPress.com. Our farm blog is at www.

My print is featured in an article about the Prints for Peace show in Monterrey, Mexico.

Translated by Google
MONTERREY, July 13 (dpa) - In the rush to return to the path of peace in Monterrey, the third largest city in Mexico and the second more violent, an independent group of artists decided to move from words to deeds and plasma ink and paper their desire to put an end to the problem in an exhibition called "Prints for Peace".
In 2008, the artist Guadalupe Victoria called her friends and the initiative was an unprecedented success, today the work of more than 200 artists from 49 countries worldwide come together to cry out that they hope will be heard more than hundreds of bullets are fired each week in this industrial hub of the country.
"Prints for Peace" is a traveling exhibition of 252 works with the etching by the group of independent authors Art Human Development, which started its activities giving art workshops for survivors of domestic violence in Monterrey.
After launching the call on the Internet and more information than your home address, Victoria received in the first year 140 works of different artists from abroad, while the latter figure rose to 280.
"It was very good response, even after starting with this call I learned that in Denmark had been translated and already had a website that country. The artists were very supportive," he told the artist originally from Mexicali (Baja California), Guadalupe Victorica.
This show at the Cultural Center A. C. Tecnológico de Monterrey, located in the Bishop area, one of the oldest and finest in the city. It have a place from the simplest drawings of two base colors of oil to the most laborious and expensive in fine papers in Germany.
Black and white and vivid colors blend in images of the politician and philosopher Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Buddha and other drawings alluding to peace as doves and angels.
"What is needed in this technique is very good at drawing and have patience. Where we get more jobs for the exhibition is from Brazil, Argentina and the United States, but anyone who sends a work that is the size and technical etching, we pledge to expose, "explained a degree in art 58 years old.
The purpose of these independent artists, far from receiving a financial reward is simply to share and reflect society on how to contribute to peace.
"It's a very interesting show because it brings together works from many countries around the world and you realize that this problem of violence exists in all directions. Moreover, the drawings are excellent," said one visitor to the exhibition, which will be open until August.
This year, organizers decided to hold the presentation as guest country of Greece, which shows 26 works. In the next call will be honored country Japan.
For artists interested in getting his message of peace to Mexico, Victoria says that plans to continue the project while still getting recorded at Monterrey.
"We see artists like situations around the world, but some are more impressive and we are right where we focus on and use it for art. All we can do for the current violence and insecurity is to touch the issue by our jobs, "he said.
Thus, these isolated voices appearing online or painted on a wall and call for an end to violence through art channel found in this initiative that aims to end the problem, but at least help you have a light hope.
